Matchbook
In this project, I designed a matchbook inspired by the theme of fire, specifically focusing on volcano.
The design process involved creating a series of digital illustrations using Procreate, which were then transformed into a tangible matchbook with detailed artwork on each match and a cotton-stuffed volcano feature, embodying the dual nature of creation and destruction inherent in volcanoes.
This project is inspired by the movie "Fire of Love," which narrates the tale of explorers captivated by the majestic yet perilous beauty of volcanic eruptions.
This movie tells the story of a couple of explorers who travel around the world, following volcanic eruptions and risking their lives to record their discoveries. They eventually lost their lives in a volcanic eruption in 1991.
I chose a volcano as the central theme of my project. This film profoundly impacted my understanding of volcanoes as dual forces of creation and destruction. It illustrated the human spirit's minuteness against nature's might and the romanticism in pursuing dreams against all odds.
My designs sought to mirror this complex interplay of danger and beauty, life and destruction, encapsulating the grandeur and romance associated with volcanoes.

The entire process was a blend of digital and manual creativity.

I utilized Procreate to craft a series of illustrations that brought my concept to life.
These illustrations were then printed and meticulously folded into the shape of a matchbook.
I added further depth by illustrating individual matches, a cotton-stuffed volcano on the back of the matchbook, adding a tactile dimension to the design and symbolizing the eruptive nature of volcanoes.
One of the most significant learnings from this project was developing the ability to create a cohesive series of illustrations within a tight timeframe. This experience pushed the boundaries of my creative process, teaching me the value of time management and efficient design execution.
Additionally, working on this project reinforced the importance of having a strong, well-thought-out concept as the foundation for design. It was a reminder that even in the smallest of objects, like a matchbook, there lies the potential to narrate a story and evoke profound emotions.
